Relief models can be created utilizing a variety of methods:

  • A relief model is created using modeling software that goes beyond geometric solids and allows precise control over free form shapes. I use ArtCam Pro
  • 3D laser triangulation scanning works well to create an intricate model from existing elements
  • Models can be hand carved and then scanned
  • Models can be constructed merging scanned parts with modeled parts

With my experience in hand carving, machine carving, and computer-aided design, I am able to quickly assess your project and make recommendations for the most feasible approach to meeting your machine woodcarving needs.

Machine Strategies
Machining strategies must be evaluated on each part individually to find the best compromise between detail, surface finish and machining time. Most often a light sanding by hand or machine completes the part. In some cases hand tooling is required.

I offer in-house training to assist in developing the optimal finishing techniques to complete parts after they are machined.
